SANCTUARY CITIES – SEEDING THE LANDSCAPE

How do I tell my kids and grandkids, that they should always obey the law, uhh, except when they don’t like the law?

That begs the question: Why do our elected representatives on the left openly protect and approve of those who blatantly break our immigration laws?

Whenever a president, governor or mayor takes office, they take an oath to faithfully preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, i.e., to follow the law. Fact is, hundreds of these officials know they will be breaking the law as they recite the pledge.

With all the hoopla about illegal immigration, it is stunning to learn that the administrations of over three hundred cities and towns in this country have been breaking laws every day by declaring their venue as “sanctuary” meaning, law breakers are given immunity, de facto, from enforcement based solely on the political leanings. They are telling our kids, “We don’t like this law, so we give ourselves permission to violate.”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, for example, openly declared in November of 2016, that his city will always remain a sanctuary venue for law-breakers, the law be damned. Emanuel joins the mayors of New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia and many others who all have said their sanctuary city policies will remain in place despite the threat of losing federal assistance. According to most reports, 300 cities and counties across the country have such a policy. The ultimate loss of federal funding could be staggering for these communities. In the case of San Francisco, for example, city officials say they receive about one billion dollars from Washington.

For the most part, President Barack Obama was a strong advocate for immigrants, legal and illegal, basically allowing the sanctuary cities with impunity, no matter the level of crime and drug trafficking that many illegals brought with them. This doesn’t even mention the estimated 40 percent of all illegals who come to America with valid visas, then overstay and disappear within populous.

My kids ask me, “Why do mayors, governors and past presidents protect law violators?” Most will tell us that it’s all about compassion and love of fellow humans. But, I wonder.

Sure, many illegal immigrants are hard workers, but many more are leeches on our economy and system of laws. The Center for Immigration Studies found that at least 51 percent of immigrants are using one or more welfare program. Immigrant households headed by Central American or Mexican origins use welfare programs at a rate 86 percent higher than U.S. citizens.

A 2014 study by National Review found that $1.87 billion was spent just to house illegal aliens in our prisons.  That doesn’t address the costs of court process, police, probation, or the enormous costs to victims of violent and non-violent crime.

The U.S. Sentencing Commission reports that aliens accounted for nearly 75 percent of drug possession cases and 30 percent of drug sentences in 2014.

Breitbart published a chilling article by former Congressman Tom Tancredo on crime stats by illegals in 2015. Between 2008 and 2014, 40 percent of all murder convictions in Florida were criminal aliens.

Crime statistics abound regarding illegal aliens, but we must also consider the enormous chunk out of our tax supported economy that goes to health care and education afforded all aliens, legal or not.

Meanwhile, the leaders of 300 sanctuary cities in America continue to advocate for illegal aliens, some of whom have committed terrible crimes, like the recent rape of a 14 year-old student in a Maryland high school bathroom by two adult students in the country illegally. Sanctuary cities stand as a blockade against local law enforcement officers who are prohibited, in many cases, from even questioning these people.

Some folks say it’s about compassion. Really?  Are Democrats supporting sanctuary cities from the goodness of their heart? Think again.

They are seeding the future political landscape of America.

In 1955, Ron Kessler wrote a book, Inside the White House, in which President Lyndon B. Johnson was on Air Force One speaking informally to two governors, when he said, “I’ll have those n**gers voting Democrat for the next 200 years.” Johnson, as we all know, was the force behind the welfare entitlement programs that we live with today.

Open borders and the standing invitation by liberal politicians to protect illegal immigrants – by the millions – is tantamount to engineering the cultural and political landscape of 2030 and 2040.  Babies today will have many more babies tomorrow. Robust birth rates will stack the deck for widespread loyalty to political liberalism, thus relegating the Republican Party to minor status.  And, they are getting away with it.

     See…crime Does Pay after all.

Democrats have been pushing “Nullification” since at least 1832. This isn’t new and the arguments today are just sillier and more self-serving than they were when SC passed its Ordinance of Nullification back then.
The city I grew up in went to the Democrats the year I left (1965) and has 25% unemployment, shuttered factories, and every kind of vice, graft, and corruption you’d find in any big Northeastern city. It reminds me of the stories my Da told of the FERA and PWA days of the ’30s. Still true: you want the handout, you vote Democrat.

You said “law breakers are given immunity, de facto, …solely on the basis of political leanings”…As a criticism I think that is an incomplete statement and surely subject to broad error in statistical data since the violation of immigration rules was open, transparent and encouraged by economically powerful interests. Sanctuary cities are that way because a few sectors of USA society was morally appalled at the issues raised by 11 million or so persons in our society without legal rights of any kind exposed to rough police behavior, prison and all the rest while legislators stalled on a solution.

You could provide a little more recognition of the moral dilemma which certain communities refused to tolerate. A non-solution while awaiting a political one.

You’ve hit the nail on the head once again Marshall but some people can’t see the forest because of the trees.

People here without legal rights are ILLEGAL! Exposed to rough police behavior? What evidence do you have? Exposed to prison? Rape and murder maybe? And please, what is “all the rest” mean? If it’s is sooo bad here why do they they keep coming; so I am thinking maybe they should just leave. Immigration rules are not rules, they are laws. Maybe we should make drunk driving a rule and keep open bottles in the car so it is transparent.

I don’t think it’s about morals. If you look at the north east, people are moving out by the thousands because of high taxes and there is no money to rehab the big cities. These cities are so desperate to keep up their population base they will import people from any where. However most of the imports will more than likely go on government assistance, which in turns raises taxes. Call it sanctuary cities or whatever, it is about money not morals.

Can anyone explain what John Lees has just written? I think the moral dilemma John is referring to has been caused by people illegally entering America. The moral dilemma that should be addressed should be the illegal immigrants corrupt home country they are fleeing. The solution is to close the border, return criminal immigrants to their home country and figure out the most humane way to handle the remaining illegal immigrants in America.

I am morally appalled that illegals are protected at all. They are … de facto … ILLEGALLY HERE, have no rights as American citizens, and need to be deported immediately. If they wish to return LEGALLY, then go through the proper channels and do so. Mr. Lees…your comment about “rough police behavior” is pure slander and bushwah. I dealt with illegals as a uniformed cop, and they were never mistreated, NOR did I ever see them mistreated. There is no solution acceptable other than deportation and enforcement of our laws equally.

Roger, calm down. Illegal immigration is down 40% on southern US border since Trump took over. He’s hiring thousands of new border patrol and bids on the wall are being taken right now with the wall construction to begin this summer. Stopping illegal immigration is being done.

Remove the magnets that attract them here. Place a bounty on illegals and the police will be free to go back to protecting the public. Never allow illegals to vote, receive any benefits from the government, or legally purchase or rent anything in America.

Illegals are already rethinking the consequences of crossing our border since Trump has been elected.

As for Sanctuary Cities, round up the politicians that declared the status and “lock them up”. Charge them with treason. I am an American veteran and I don’t believe we put our lives on the line so that crooked, unpatriotic politicians could give everything away. Maybe it’s time we made military service a mandatory requirement before you can run for office?

I believe that we are being taken for a ride by the party that calls itself the “Democratic” party. Too many people, today, believe that democratic means democratic tradition…it does not. Since its inception it is no more than a socialistic front with the full intention of overthrowing the government as it was supposed to be and replacing it with a social welfare basis one. If people would take time out from receiving all of the so-called freebies from the government and see where it is leading, they would without doubt immediately condemn the programs they themselves use. No government can provide for all of its constituents unless that government owns and controls all business in order to have that much money. How dumb can we get????

a Multi Phase Problem with many solutions already on the books – the Magnet of Employers offering Jobs to Illegals can be dealt with quickly – E-Verify must be required for All – meaning Top to Bottom – and the Offending Bosses need to be Perp Walked/Shamed and spend some time – if that means The President of Tyson needs to do so it also means that I must cut my own lawn or get a legal high schooler to do it. This will end the Visa Overstayers as well – they won’t be able to work and will self deport.

Yes on The Wall – Israel’s seems to work quite well though they call it a security barrier – and Eminent Domain will grease the wheels of obtaining the land Now – and set up a process to pay the landholders a fair price, I used to work on Thunderboat Row.188th St in Aventura – Aventura wanted a Rec Center and a Charter School – they got it – and we all moved to make it happen – everything was over but the crying.

Yes on Guest Worker Visas and end the abuse of the H1B Visa Program – I moved to Ag Friendly LaBelle Fl – GWVs should be temporary offered upon need – I am not so foolish to think that American Citizens will want to pick Tomatoes or Oranges – but a proper Wall where entrants give up full bio metric data and are admitted based upon Work Needed is Sane, and H1B Visa Programs have lined the pockets of Billionaires and Tech firms while US Citizens are denied high paying Jobs just so the Zuckerbergs and Bezos’s can add another Billion.

End the BS Refugee/I am fleeing from Honduras, El Salvadore, Brazil (fill in the blank) because of the Violence – it’s YOUR Country – Fix It ! The Western Hemisphere was settled at around the same time why are the US and Canada the Best of the Best – We fixed it by Rule of Law – they must take responsibility for their own Country – NOT come here a make us de evolve to their standards. If that means their Tree of Liberty needs to be watered with the Blood of Tyrants . . . start now and quit wasting time.

    more to come

I lived in San Diego for a few years, occasionally took day trips to Tijuana and Ensenada, drove home along the highway that parallels the border fence, and yes, did see guys climbing over the fence there. Making it taller or heavier will only force those determined to cross further east into the desert to make the attempt – and some won’t survive the heat. We’ll begin to see skeletons on the south side of the fence. Not all will be male. Or adult.

The answer isn’t more fence or more Border Patrol agents. It’s changing the incentives. A national ID card won’t do it either – Trump with all his bluster couldn’t force me to carry one. A draft card was the last card I HAD to carry and when I aged out of that I swore no more.

  9. Dennis McGroarty March 29, 2017 at 3:52 pm #

At least the skeletons won’t cost taxpayers any additional money.
