AMY ADAMS – CLASS ACT

Most movie stars are arrogant and self-absorbed. They live in a bubble rife with fantasy and make-believe, blind to the realities of daily life for average people. I admire actors like Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro, Ben Affleck and Scarlet Johansonn, because they are so very good at what they do. Unfortunately, too many live within that bubble, oblivious to the real world outside.

There are a few exceptions. One of them is a 42 year-old woman named Amy Adams. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she’s very successful. She grew up in a military family and worked as a restaurant server as a young woman before chasing her dream to be an actress. She also learned to be humble.

Such was the case in just three years ago when she spotted a U.S. Serviceman board an aircraft in Detroit. Amy Adams arranged with a Flight Attendant to give her first class seat to the soldier, while she took his seat in coach. She didn’t intend for the story to get out, but it did.

Recently, she was being honored in Hollywood by her name being etched into the Stars Walk of Fame. When asked to speak, she first thought of introducing her husband and 6 year-old daughter to the audience. She’s been with her man since 2001.  That must be a Hollywood record.

Amy Adams was born on a military base in Italy and grew up on a base in Colorado. She has been nominated five times for an Oscar, and will undoubtedly be a winner one day.

It’s a feel-good story. There’s not too many movie actors I would pay tribute to.Thought I’d pass it on.

    Totally agree.

I’m old fashioned – women are still actresses!

Thanks for the info, Marshall. I did not know anything about her, and now I do!

You are absolutely right. However, I suspect there may be more Hollywood people worthy of respect and attention who we simply don’t know about because they keep their personal lives private.

James Shigeta comes to mind. He was probably the best known Asian/American actor, who died last year. Many years ago he starred in the movie, Flower Drum Song. I first met him when I took a planeload of Hollywood celebrities on an Air Force tour of NORAD and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. Several of the celebrities were like unruly children who could’n wait to party at night. James Shigeta, on the other hand, was completely familily oriented. All he wanted to do was find a NORAD or Air Force Academy t-shirt for his children. He was very appreciative of everything we did for him and for the opportunity to take wonderful momentous to his children. After that tour in 1983 of NORAD and the Air Force Academy, James sent me a Christmas card every year for the rest of his life. He was simply a marvelous human being who I will never forget.

I see she did a nude/sex in the movie ” American Hustle”. Maybe I am old fashioned and don’t think porn is classy.

Thank you Marshall. I will go out of my way now to patronize her films. I avoid the films of the radical liberals of Hollywood.

When Marshall previously praised Amy Adams, I mentioned one of her early movies, “Sunshine Cleaning”, which could be instructive for young women, especially. Also, Aviano air base is in a very beautiful part of Italy. The town of Bassano esp., will make the horrors of WWII, real, as they maintain the trees where partisans were hung by the Nazis.
Many of those so many of you denigrate as “Liberals”, or worse: “Hollywood Liberals”, escaped from Nazis. Is the movie name “Trumble”, or “Dalton Trumble?, I can’t remember. But it too tells about what really happened to many “Hollywood liberals”.
Dalton Trumble served in our Military in WWII. John Wayne and Ronald Reagan did not.
you can see their real-life actions in that movie.

      (Non)reality,
Please provide information that Dalton Trumbo was in the military. I am unable to find any information of the sort! Admittedly, Trumbo was one of the most talented screenwriters in Hollywood, but the movie portrayed Trumbo as a Communist who was as mainstream as anyone else, and certainly not the Stalinist he was in real life. A fact of his early life was that he asked his father to give him $5 so he could join the Ku Klux Klan! Maybe he fits the bill of a hero for you liberals, but his political choice is not acceptible for those of us who relish patriotism!

    Marshall,

I really enjoy the postings by most of your respondents. Some are gifted writers who express their positions with enthusiam and clarity. But a few do not. For example, why is it that every time I read a posting by “reality,” I feel as though I have just stepped in a pile of doggy doo?

In general, those who post anonymously
Spread mostly doggy doo and B.S.

To Lee: It is Brian Cranston as “Trumbo” in the movie, that asserts he served in WWII on Okinawa, I think it was. I’m trying to find out if that is true, but am also curious as to why John Wayne did not serve. Maybe you know? And you know that the U.S invaded what had become the Soviet Union, after WWI, in an effort to restore the monarchy? This man did serve: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/05/us/gene-la-rocque-decorated-veteran-who-condemned-waste-of-war-dies-at-98.html?emc=eta1&_r=0 One million Russians died at Stalingrad, more than Americans in WWI and II combined. If the Soviets had not killed so much of the Wehrmacht, the U.S would never have been able to succeed at their second attempt to land on European soil. George Washington said: “the nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave…” He writes 5 paragraphs explaining that in his Farewell 1796.
Our Revolution was against the British Monarchy. Churchill serves the Queen, and another King George is coming up. Did Churchill celebrate upon hearing about Pearl Harbor? Stalin died in 1953. “Communists” never invaded us. We overthrew a whole lot

Sorry: I never said Trumbo was a hero. It is just scary that this Land of the Free was so scared of him that they put him in jail. We now have more people in jail than Russia does. And why is the “home of the brave” so afraid of the “Communist Menace”, and previously “The Yellow Horde”? China is still Communist, and Americans have bought how many of their products? The Soviets didn’t get rid of their Czars, untl 1917. The U.S was all done with Indian Removal, Slavery, taking over TX, AZ, CA, CO, NV, and NM long before that. Though we started with sneaky overthrows of elected governments in 1953? and how many, till Tues, Sept 11, 1973, at least? We bombed Iraq twice, but are horrified about Crimea and Ukraine? Look how much coastline we have, compared to Russia. You can’t comprehend that they might have been terrified by us? And still are? And it was the Commies who rescued our astronauts in space after the Challenger disaster. And we are ALL on this tiny spaceship earth together. It doesn’t frighten you that now we and them, and any wacko in the world can now get hold of a nuke that could fit in a suitcase, while we spend Billions building new STealth bombers, when a drone cost about one million $$?
An “old” one bombed Panama to kill our trained in the school of Americas guy, Noriega.
