O’REILLY VERSUS OBAMA: A CONTENTIOUS INTERVIEW

Syndicated columnist Dana Milbank penned a recent article ( see link) lambasting Bill O’Reilly for being unfair to President Obama in the now-famous Super Bowl Day interview. Not surprising, and certainly subjective.

What Mr. Milbank failed to point out, is that good journalism strives to elicit truthful answers on important issues, and when the journalist is limited to a ten-minute time frame, it leaves no time for lengthy discussion about anything, which is why O’Reilly had a short list of pointed questions, some of which were left hanging unanswered.

The president’s forte’ is speechmaking. Knowing this, O’Reilly was in a position to present as many questions as possible without allowing a time-consuming filibuster.

It was necessary for O’Reilly to interrupt the president. For example, he asked a question like: “Why didn’t you fire Sebelius, the secretary in charge of this?” (Re: Obamacare website fiasco) Obama dodged the question completely.

“You know my main priority right now is to make sure that it delivers for the American people…”

So, O’Reilly interrupted again: “You’re not going to answer that?”

To which, the president cited a litany of enrollment numbers, but nothing about Mrs. Sebelius. The president could have been more honest had he simply said, “I like Mrs. Sebelius, period.” End of discussion. Instead, he rambled about items unrelated to the question. Obama was simply not going to answer.

The president also tap danced around the question of when he was first informed that the Benghazi attack was terror related. That question still remains unresolved. Fortunately Obama did not retort, “What difference does it make?”

The president dishonestly dodged another question, submitted by a citizen: “Mr. President, why do you feel it’s fundamentally necessary to transform the nation that has afforded you so much opportunity and success?”

Answer: “I don’t think we have to fundamentally transform the nation.”

     Pinocchio!

O’Reilly: “But those were your words.”

Fact:  Five days before the election of 2008, in Columbia, Missouri, Mr. Obama made a campaign speech which included:  “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”

The president never addressed the question

But the president did manage to get in his jab at Fox News about the IRS scandal: “These kinds of things keep surfacing, in part, because you and your TV station promote them.” (These are qestions being asked by many millions of people Not a good time to be a cry baby.)

When asked about the IRS fiasco, the president sloughed it off to a few boneheaded decisions in the field, claiming there was no mass corruption. Adding, “Not even a smidgen of corruption.”

     Really?

O’Reilly should have countered, “But it is still an on-going investigation, the answers are still unknown. How can you make such a conclusion?”

There were no softball questions, which other journalists are famous for. O’Reilly did his job well, considering his restraints. The columnist, Dana Milbank’s criticism should have been directed to the president for emulating Fred Astaire and wrongfully drawing conclusions about on-going investigations.

To his credit, the president did agree to the interview knowing it would be contentious.

To his credit, Bill O’Reilly was not intimidated by the president and did his job without backing down.

What can one expect from a man who lies out both sides of his mouth, views our country as the major source of the world’s problems, and who without question is a Marxist in the tailored suit of a liberal Democrat?

  2. Anonymous February 5, 2014 at 11:29 am #

Both of them did well, recognizing that each had a different objective; however, the interview was a bit boring. We learned nothing new from the standpoint of facts. We did learn that the President wasn’t or isn’t much interested in these particular questions.

The follow-on interview, aired on The Factor, was more interesting, but you have to understand that the President is not going to answer any questions he doesn’t want to answer and the interviewer cannot make him answer. Obama is masterful at obfuscating. He doesn’t answer questions; he pontificates and tries to run out the clock. I did get the feeling Bill was more interested in making sure he got out all his questions than he was in soliciting answers. Even on The Factor the next day he seemed to be more concerned about how he was viewed as an interviewer. He constantly reminds the audience that he asks questions that no other reporters ever ask. He has an ego as big as the state of Texas.

You were right again Marshall. I will have to refer to Larry Henry’s response for any thing else to say.

  4. Just Me February 5, 2014 at 11:41 am #

Obama is a proven serial liar. He’s aware that the mainstream media and those who agree with his anti-American actions will make his corruption and lying to be the fault of his detractors, not him.

Throughout the interview, Obama was unable to articulate truth and/or present any facts. His skillset includes only the ability to read with the aid of a teleprompter, the speeches others prepare for him. We saw in this interview what happens to him when he’s left on his own. It is not a pretty sight. Notice throughout this interview and others done with O’Reilly, how Obama uses tactics such as laughing at O’Reilly, ridiculing him and reaching his hand out to O’Reilly. One of the first interviews he did with O’Reilly, Obama reached out and touched O’Reilly’s leg. These tactics are meant to demean the interviewer and show Obama’s power over him. These are old tactics the powerful use.

Dana Milbanks’ defense of Obama shows for all that this President is in need of rescuing due to his corruption and lying. That is not what Milbank was going for, but it is the result nonetheless.

Fox News has been at the forefront of exposing the corruption and lies of this President and his gang because many of the other journalists are busy covering up for him by ignoring the truth and/or giving false information. That is a sad, but true commentary on present-day journalism. Sadly, the mainstream media’s role in protecting this President has proven to be detrimental to our country, our allies, our military and our fellow citizens.

Thank you Marshall, for speaking truth about this President and his gang and everyone else in Washington, regardless of which party they represent.

The liberal media grades on style. Facts, truth and reality are verboten and meaningless. That words have meaning is suspended by liberals during interviews.

For a great example of the above, watch the video of the Palin-Biden VP debate. Biden told 22 lies in short order but won the debate on style. Or just listen to anything coming out of Zero’s mouth on any given day.

  8. Chris February 5, 2014 at 12:49 pm #

Liar Liar, pants on fire. Obama lied and dodged the questions. Like Just Me says, he is a serial liar. He actually believes his crap, because he says it over and over.

Liberal mantra: If you repeat a lie enough, it becomes the truth.

Don’t know why Bill O’Reilly would stoop so low as to interview such a cretin as obummer.

    • Edward A. Hensley February 5, 2014 at 1:06 pm #

O’Reilly interviewed Obama to try and increase viewership
of FOX News and for another feather in the Bill O’Reilly hat. Obama sat
for Bill O Mouth for TV Face Time during the Super Bowl. Pretty simple.

  9. Bill Stringer February 5, 2014 at 1:11 pm #

Good one today about the interview. In my opinion O’Reilly is not as good as he thinks he is.
He failed to use the time to try and show how slippery POSO is and how the guy filibusters
to say nothing in the longest time. Dana Milbank is a first class bootlicker for POSO and the Dims.
He has had other ridiculous articles that he was called out on, and I imagine his will blindness will
    continue to inflict him.

My Dad, God rest his soul, always told me “you can buy loyaly but you have to EARN respect”.
That about sums up POSO and the Dims. These slime continue to buy votes, and do it with other peoples
money. They will never stop. The unions and the DNC, now there is an investigation worth conducting.
It would make the IRS scandal look like a walk on the beach.

I like your sentence about loyalty and respect.
I hope many the “loyalists” will replace it with disrespect

Bill O’Reilley and good journalism are not synonymous

  11. John Parmenter February 5, 2014 at 1:15 pm #

The truth more lies in the thought that Obama would have refused to be on this program without a well in advance preview of every question and a mechanism to bail if he wanted to. The short interview time limit was also used to keep any pointed discussion impossible. This President doesn’t represent a majority of this countries population of voting citizens. His base is dependent on his welfare/liberal program/not so secret socialist agenda. Yes, O’Reilly brought up some issues but none were answered as it was planned.

  12. Edward A. Hensley February 5, 2014 at 1:16 pm #

Obama has had zero credibility with me since his 2008 campaign of lies.
O’Reilly has had near zero credibility with me since he insulted me and all who
would dare question Obama’s place of birth, for sliding the term “Birther” out of
his mouth with all the snot you would expect of an MSNBC reporter. The same
goes for Ann Coulter & all at FOX News who carry the water pail for Obama’s
failure to release anything about his past except forged short & long form BC’s,
a forged draft registration and NO school records. The O’Reilly interview of
Obama was simply a mutual exercise in TV Face Time for each other, IMHO!

  13. John K February 5, 2014 at 2:13 pm #

Yes, he did agree to an interview with O’Reilly. He had to. A number of years ago, in his egotistical requirement for air time, he agreed to Super Bowl Sunday interviews with all three major networks on a rotating basis. What a waste of time on a great football day in America. He is President, he will not change, and he will never acknowledge his inability and lack of experience in managing anything, let alone the most important job in the world. Just sick of the whole mess.

  14. Bill S. February 5, 2014 at 4:42 pm #

Typical OReilly interview – Ask a question and talk through the interviewees reply.
    Let’s call it a tie.

    • Jan van Waardenburg February 9, 2014 at 3:35 pm #

The performance might be a tie, but not the content.
Miss speaking is still lying. and in this respect Obama’s
      score is a “10″
      Nobody does that better.

  16. Rico February 6, 2014 at 12:23 am #

Too bad O’Reilly couldn’t have pressed him on why he lied through his eye teeth to the world? Congressional reports stated he was briefed the next day by Mr Panetta & Gen Dempsey, that it was clearly a terrorist attack!!! 2 weeks later after it was clear it was a preplanned terrorist attack, obama told the United Nations the attack was due to a “disgusting” video!!! This was the same thing Clinton & Rice parroted in the days following the attack. Obama also said the same thing in speeches in the days following the attack after he returned from his fund raiser in Las Vegas!

Of course being respectful to the office of the presidency he could not do this!!!

  17. Jan van Waardenburg February 6, 2014 at 10:59 am #

It appears Obama acts with absolute power.
His planned civilian arm smells of naziism.
I compare him with some of the heads of countries in Africa such as Mugabe, Korea and so on.
    What say you?

Well said. There are people who recognize the patterns in parallel to Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Cuba.

Some who think as do we refer to this ‘one’ as Little Mugabe.

Recently chatted with a fellow who worked aboard a cruise ship. His family had owned a chain of photographic stores in Zimbabwe. Then they didn’t. He said they were fortunate to get out with their lives.

This gentleman said it was a pleasure to speak with others who recognized the same thing occurring here, because too often people seem oblivious to it.

The patterns are there for any who wish to see them.

Some recognize the patterns but then perhaps out of some denial mechanism within them, to stave off the fear, say, ‘oh well, same thing happening but it can’t happen here’.

They’re wrong. It can. And it is.

  18. Ron Fischer February 6, 2014 at 12:23 pm #

Nobody was even slightly surprised about anything in the interview. O’Reilly tried but Obama lied and that was the best that could be expected.

We have become a nation of “jittery passengers” on a potential train wreck. So far, nobody has stepped up to save the train or the passengers! Pretty soon the whole world will get the “jitters”.

Twenty five years ago O’Reilly read the teleprompter for Inside Edition. He reported on the likes of Mr. Peikul who croaked people, rolled them in blankets, and stuffed them into attic crawlspaces of stylish ‘n’ swanky Hamptons mansions. Paging Detective Lysol….

Here? He’s working the wrong side of the street. Mr. Peikul (spelling?) was a straightforward hood. He did what he did. Got caught. Got locked up.

But with these types, O’Reilly’s trying to pin with the ones who are too big for consequences.

O’Reilly as with other TV media ‘conservatives’ goes so far, no further. If he sees his subject losing control, about to lapse into the truth, he’ll quickly pull back, talk about the subject’s favorite pudding or what he’d name his pet goldfish.

O’Reilly’s callous dismissal of the birth certificate/concealed records issue tells one all one needs to know.

If there’s nothing to the BC/records issue, then what’s the harm in exploring it?

Obama is a complete liar – yes he is.

But, the fact that his lying is completely unchallenged and unchecked is even more disturbing. Do Americans now accept dishonesty and corruption in government no matter what happens to the country?
