Could anyone ever imagine Walter Cronkite or Larry King telling an invited guest on TV, “You’re a very stupid man, aren’t you?”

Had you watched Larry King’s successor, Piers Morgan on January 8th interviewing Larry Pratt, head of a national gun advocate group, that’s what you would have heard. Regardless of individual views about gun control, no one should be subjected to verbal abuse by a television host. As an interviewer, Piers Morgan could not shine Larry King’s shoes. He invited Mr. Taylor on the show, via satellite, then proceeded to lambaste and interrupting him constantly, including the infamous stab, “You are an incredibly stupid man.” Clearly, Piers Morgan had a personal agenda. Watch the video from the 2-minute mark.

Click here: Piers Morgan Larry Pratt – YouTube

While he’s certainly entitled to his own opinions, Morgan’s job is to ask questions and elicit a point of view from an invited guest, not subject him to denigration and insults. That’s as low class as it gets. I would hope that American viewers are so offended by his outrageous behavior that his ratings plummet and he’s relegated back to England. We the people are not interested in Piers Morgan’s extreme bias on any subject, but to serve as a competent conduit for information. That was Larry King’s credo, and why he was so respected in the industry.

We’ve hit rock bottom in the news industry of the modern era. It’s commonplace these days for television hosts to fire off nasty slurs and insults at guests just because they differ in a political or social issue. Rush Limbaugh called Democrat darling, Sandra Fluke, a “slut” because she basically wants to the taxpayer to pay for her birth control pills. That was a big mistake for Limbaugh which cost him a lot of respect.

MSNBC host, Ed Schultz called his journalistic counterpart, Laura Ingraham a “slut” on radio airwaves, simply because she holds conservative views. And, he kept his job.

Where are the standards of decency? Bear in mind, this is supposedly a professional journalist, commentator.

Listen from the 40 second mark:

Click here: Ed Schultz: Laura Ingraham A ‘Right-Wing Slut’ (AUDIO)

Remember what happened to radio talk host, Don Imus, when he tried to be funny with his “Nappy-headed hos” comment on air. He was unceremoniously fired from CBS.

The worst of all entertainment bottom dwellers, was so-called funny man, Bill Maher on HBO, calling former governor, Sarah Palin, a “c-u-n-t.” That’s in addition to other expletives, like “twat” and “bimbo.” He excuses his ignominious behavior on air as being okay because he’s a comedian. In today’s world, that’s a license for slinging disgusting insults.

If Maher’s a comedian, Jerry Lewis and Johnny Carson are rolling over in their graves. And if insults is his schtick, he should take a lesson from Don Rickles, who never called anyone a dirty name.

Why does he keep his job? Why does HBO tolerate filthy name-calling? Why do people laugh? Why does the public tolerate such repulsive language as entertainment?

This is not a republican/democrat issue, or liberal/conservative. None of this should be tolerated by the listening/viewing public, and those that do are no better than Maher.

Sarah Palin is a national figure, a former state governor with a successful record of public service and she is a dedicated mother and family woman. So she’s conservative, so what? Does Maher think that only liberals are exempt from hostility? If Sean Hannity called Hillary Clinton the same names, would there be any doubt about the repercussions.

The fault is ours. We, men and woman, right and left wingers, blacks, whites, Hispanics, — all of us – are at fault for the deterioration of civility and for the deterioration of the news and entertainment industry. Because we don’t complain. We accept low class entertainers and commentators as normal in today’s world, where they would never have been accepted in the days of Cronkite and Larry King.

As for Piers Morgan, he needs a taste of America backlash. He needs to know that you don’t lure guests on an interview show so you can ambush them with verbal attacks. He needs to know that a good interviewer is able to expose people without attacks, and let the public decide for themselves. But he can’t do that, because he is a poor interviewer.

Piers Morgan needs to be fired.

You are quite right for being indignant, however, I have mixed feelings on the subject. It doen’t take long to determine who are the reputable TV hosts and those who are not. Remember the line. “Those who don’t read the papers are uninformed. Those who do are misinformed.”
Well, for instance, I read the New York Times headlines and banners, occasionally reading the underlying story. I hate the New York Times but feel a need to read it to see what the enemy is up to. I occasionally tune into those people you mentioned for the same reason. However, even the so called good ones are biased and also controlled by their management. I often wonder, why didn’t he ask “so and such?” or why didn’t he correct that obvious mistatement and it occurs to me, because he isn’t allowed to.
One cannot trust any of those fellows and except for some instances of local shows, most “news” shows are opinion fronts meant only for entertainment. A serious viewer cannot trust anything said by the media and the worst examples are interviews of politicians.
I recommend limiting video and newpaper time and research the internet. Even that is not completely trustworth with strawmen planted all over the place. However, a sampling of several different hits soon results in a fairly obvious truth or, at least, a concensus of the possible truth. I suspect that is the closest to the truth we can get in this day and age of totally corrupt people trying to control our every move.
Finally, you have the option of limiting your exposure to these various airtime charlatans. Tis my recommendation.

I simply can’t find in my heart to care what our national media does or how they treat their adversaries. The people who still watch the trash they spew can’t be helped and they deserve what they are served by the classless renegades that now occupy the bulk of the big three network programing.

  3. mike February 2, 2013 at 4:22 am #

He should be fired , however you then get another interviewer like Jay Leno who puts him on his show , to let him explain why he has the right to say what he wants , where he doesn’t have the rights he is not a citizen. He has no rights in this country and should be deported , however if he is to go so is Al Sharpton fromMSNBC ,a complete racist , Liar and called the TREVON Martin Case a HATE CRIME. The people will take care of Bill Maher in due time , because he also is a racist and now has to have body guards with him everywhere , because people have told him he is going to get it , nothing bad but an ass kicking . He might not show up for his show in awhile , long while because they are never going to have enough makeup to help him. There are enough News casters like Brian Williams, who can’t bring the news on unless the WH approves the programming , like Diane Sawyer on ABC . CBS on the other hand is directly paid by the White House , thats when ever Obama ants to appear in front of the citizens , all Obama has to say is I am coming on today for your Evening News and you have 10 minutes , These are the points I want to make , I will just have my writers give you a script. CBS yes sir Whatever you want Sir. I have never in my 50 years of watching the news seen such a just a biased press

  4. Ron Kenerly February 2, 2013 at 1:33 pm #

Most of the talk radio and TV shows are bias trash and everyone has an option…I have never seen a radio or TV without a switch.
If you want to sit and waste your time listening or watching this trash, then that is your decision.
If you do watch and disapprove, there are things like email, telephone and letters to the networks to voice your opinion but do not be surprised if the complaints fall on deft ears/eyes as these type of situations would not occur in the first place if the owners and managers of these shows did not approve.
What may get better results, complain to the sponsors that are funding these incidents…those are the people who dictate results….follow the money.

Morgan & ilk like him are the poster boys of why obamer won again. There are millions and millions who do NOT have access to Fox, or cable which provide what Paul Harvey would say is the “rest of the story”. As such, the mind numbed public sign on to the pap that Morgan, (who is enjoying the lower tax rates and better cost of living we still have here vs. England) spew. Morgan, Maher, and other cretins of the lame stream media litter the airwaves with hate speech, bias, and absolute lies, and yet they are revered by an adoring W.H., and vise versa. Anyone who disagrees with them, is villified, loudly branded as stupid, hateful and any other negative adjective they can come up with.

I would love to see CNN fire his butt. Nothing like that will happen, because the idiots who run CNN agree with Morgan. What is ironic though, is CNN’s ratings continue to sink lower and lower, and MSNBC, who sport a complete morons like Ed Schultz, the biggest hate monger on cable, have almost no one watching…save the uber left wing fringe folks, and those (once again) who cannot get an alternative to watch. It is those who can be swayed by ludicrous liberal libel that concern me.

Limbaugh did get taken to the wood shed for his comments about Fluke, and he should have. He occasionally goes overboard with his commentary, and invariably gets nailed for it, and rightfully so. But does Morgan get in trouble for anything he says?

Hannity is the gentleman of the group…and while he can beat an issue until it is beyond wanting to discuss any more…he does not cuss, berate or belittle anyone around him. Even notoriously liberal Bob Beckel calls Hannity one of the kindest and generous people he ever met. Hannity, like all of us, is human and subject to err, and lose his cool, but basically, if all media people emulated his demeanor, it would be a far nicer medium.

Totally agree about Morgan. As viewers and readers, “you pay your money and take your choice”. It’s up to us to sort it all out. That sorting process should be driven by our individual needs to be informed or entertained. The media, yes even Fox, try’s to bundle everything: News (Yankees won); Facts (score was 3-0); Analysis (Great pitching did the trick); Opinion (Red Sox can’t hit a curve); Entertainment (A-Rod is dating some model); and finally Agenda (Watch channel 3 for all Yankee games).

News, facts, analysis, opinion, entertainment, and agenda are what the media throws at you and that’s what you have to sort through. The danger is concluding one source like Rush or Morgan is giving you FACTS with all the other crap they spew. My opinion is that sometimes we confuse all we see, hear, and read with facts. Therein lies the result of being misinformed.

  8. Jay February 2, 2013 at 5:01 pm #

Marshall . . . I have so much on my mind . . . I will keep this short. (Politics set aside) The days of Walter Cronkite & Paul Harvey are long gone. I have a family member who works in entertainment. It is all about ratings. Sad to say – – – this is the culture we live in. Being objective in media – – – – is a myth.

    • Ron Kenerly February 2, 2013 at 5:15 pm #

If the media only stuck to reporting FACTS and not half-truths or personal opinions or creating sensationalism, then I feel all of us would be better off. One thing that could immediately resolve some of these issues is to remove the editing capabilities of stories they show. If they want to show a scene, then it must be the entire scene, not just clips edited together to fabricate a story. Integrity is a thing of the past….I think it was buried along with our old friend Common-Sense and his cousin Self-Respect.

  9. Jose February 2, 2013 at 6:04 pm #

My apologies to Marshall. I missed the main themes, civility and decency. Imus, Rush, Maher, Morgan, et al. It would be quite enough to report the facts about Palin if one was really interested. However the filthy descriptors used by some were totally unacceptable. I’m inclined to agree that our culture has been degraded by examples such as these. That is not humor. Passion (anti NRA) can certainly be expressed without calling the person an idiot, even though his position may appear idiotic.

As much as I go along with you on Hannity, he does push the limits sometimes too.
You are basically correct!! But this day and time, it is hard to believe even what you see with your own eyes….you need to analyze what you see by who behind the performance?!?!?!

      • Christopher Jones February 2, 2013 at 6:51 pm #

        Spot on Ron.

Personal analysis is the key. But when you take into consideration that there is an average intelligence in this country, and to get there, you need those way below average and of course those way above…and the way below cannot and will not ever do any research on their own (but they vote…OMG), and a most of the average will never do any research on their own (and they vote too)…and all these people are subjected to is the ignorance, bias and hatred spewed by the uber left wing/socialist/wackos, is it any wonder why we just re elected the current socialist in chief once again? Do any of the great unwashed have a clue where the free stuff comes from?

The pendulum is swinging back, though. WHEN…not if…a major man made or natural disaster, pandemic, massive attack from either within or from the outside happens, millions – most of the people in our cities – will not be able to survive. The government is not, cannot and will not be able to save anyone. Obamer and his socialist ideas will be shown for what they are…a big facade behind which is some dude pulling strings, making smoke, and bellowing – picture the Wizard of Oz. The fools who follow obamer will not survive. He will lock himself in a bunker somewhere, but the masses will be on their own, and it ain’t gonna be pretty.

Good points made. Rush Limbaugh should have been included in calling people all kinds of names. Second, as far as I know, the death of Jerry Lewis is quite prematurely
announced, as he is living and as far as I know still entertaining a bit.

Anonymous Josie – In early January I published an accurate figure that I received directly from ‘the…. u.s.nationaldebtclock.org — I reported it on Marshall Frank’s weblog, and I have yet to see a complaint from this blog administrator on that factual issue.

    Our shy-rocketing national debt should be a serious concern to anyone that pays taxes;

I don’t like to be “quoted” so I just reply as if this were a regular e-mail.
I used to like Piers but would turn him off and now seldom if ever bother with him.
But I think the problem is very much where you say and I quote, “The fault is ours….We don’t complain….We accept”. When we don’t like something we flip to another channel, but different points of view are necessary in our democratic way of life. The harm comes when the young see and hear this and think the trashy words, the lack of respect for anyone and anything are the way to go. They learn to listen to whatever is said as if it were the “gospel” and fail to critique it themselves or fail to question what is uttered. We are teaching by our doing “nothing” and failing to “challenge” that we are all lambs being led to the slaughter – without questioning, without challenging, without respecting the individual rights and decency of others.
But I agree – Piers needs to go back to England.
My question is: where are the leaders of anything anymore? The political establishment is set up only to attract true “cons” (where else can you “work” a couple of years and get full retirement, special medical, etc., and spend taxpayer money on “pork” in your neighborhood?” They vote on issues where they can keep the most happy – whether it is wrong or right – just to stay “in office” and live “high” off of us while selling us and our belief system down the drain. When was the last time you were “inspired”, genuinely, by someone who selflessly said or did something? Too seldom!!

Martha – Your words are wise, and also humble. Thank you so much.

It’s true, we have become a leaderless nation of bleating sheep, following a leader with a shadowy chicago political background of union bosses and slumlords, and worse. It’s also
the Murder Capital on the U.S.A. with over 500 homicides in 2012.

So much for Bill Ayers and Barry Obama’s former “neighborhood organizing” efforts.

Piers Morgan is an English prude that viciously opposes our 2nd Amendment, where prudent
folks have the right to possess weapons. He uses Ted Turner’s CNN to broadcast his flawed
notions to the world. I would remind folks that CNN needs those Commercial Advertisers. If that TV Station receives an avalanche of negative letters, Piers Morgan will quickly be gone.

  22. Christopher Jones February 3, 2013 at 1:32 pm #

Ahhhh…Ralph hits on a very important point…money. I have spearheaded complaints to businesses regarding boycotting their products, and voila, the advertiser pressures the network and the show either changes its tune, or goes away. That is not censorship, it is business.

If enough people complain to CNN…and more importantly write to the sponsors of Morgan’s show, he goes away. Bloody great idea.
