A WORTHY NEW YEAR MESSAGE

SM is a woman now in her early forties. A former, highly decorated K-9 officer in an eastern state, she spent ten years in federal prison because her dog bit a burglary suspect on the leg, which the prosecution claimed was unnecessary. He and another suspect were caught at 1 a.m. atop a roof of a commercial building. Because she was in possession of a firearm at the time of the “crime,” the judge was under obligation to sentence her to a minimum of ten years, to which she served about 95 percent.

It took two trials, the first was a hung jury. The burglar “victim” was a druggie, burglar, illegal alien from Guatemala. The prosecution paid for the search and travel back to the U.S. to have him testify, with immunity, against her.

At the time, she had a three-year-old son. Her husband divorced her and her son was adopted by another woman. Nevertheless, SM was still included in the son’s life, as much as possible.

I could go into all the details, but rest assured, this was a railroad job of the utmost degree. At best, if SM was guilty of unnecessarily releasing her dog, she should have been disciplined, perhaps fired. But the prosecutors office was busy racking up conviction statistics by handing out favors to crooked cops who were looking at long hard time, and they were ratting on any other cop for wrong doing in order to buy a lighter sentence.

Now released SM is reunited with her teenage son and enjoying her freedom and making the best out of life after losing ten years, taking up a jail bed that could have been reserved for a real criminal. What happened to SM was a crime in itself.

She recently posted a new years message on line. I find it an incredible attitude considering what she had been through. It is worthy of all of us. We should all think about the goodness in life as we embark on 2013. Here is her message:

“Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don’t think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You’ll look ten years younger. Don’t be afraid to say, ‘I love you’. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world.”

To all my friends and fans: Happy New Year.

    M ~

Such a mixture of emotions on this one – anger, sadness, resentment, outrage, and yet she, the victim, shows love and hope. Brings one closer to the real meaning of life.

Because of such horrible injustices as this, I can say that, for the first time in my life, I am afraid of the justice system of my beautiful country which I love.
God bless this woman with peace and a happy rest of her life.
Those who did this to her and her family deserve whatever life/karma/God gives them.

Thanks indeed for calling attention to this travesty.

Without attribution this story is just that, a story.

Except that I personally remember SM being railroaded, on a 2nd Fed.
Trial,on the same dumb ass anti-law enforcement gun law that Border Patrol
Agents Ramos & Compean were screwed on, with no vasaline. Story rings true to me, with no further vetting. HAPPY NEW YEAR Marshall & Thanks.

Once again I am reminded of my opinion of the jusice system in the U.S.A. It is the worst of all civilized countries and worse than some uncivilized countries. Think O.J. Simpson, Robert Blake and most of all Casey Anthony.

The “story” on snopes, an uber left wing alleged fact checking site shows that SM did indeed get convicted in an uber left wing state (Maryland), by a prosecutor hell bent on
getting a conviction against cops, even though it took the prosecutor two times to get it. Burglars are the scum of the earth. Burglars are sneaky low lifes, who take what is not theirs, and if they happen to catch you home, your life is in imminent danger. Yet the low life prosecutor chose to go after the cops. Sounds about as stupid as what we have seen over the past four years, and will see for the next four.

Ten years for a dog bite? The criminals who committed the burglary went back to their country. I wish the dog had ripped off the burglars legs, and that she beat the second burglar with the severed leg.

And once again, anyone who writes without proper attribution is a bloviating fool, full of him/herself, significant of nothing.

Chris………It appears that you are guilty of your own accusation in your statement “And once again, anyone who writes without proper attribution is a bloviating fool, full of him/herself, significant of nothing.”

You claim that SNOPES is a “uber left wing alleged fact checking site” without one iota of proof! I challenge you to find any substantial evidence of such. SNOPES is run by a California couple, David and Barbara Mikkleson, who have no political activism. He last voted Republican, and she is a Canadian citizen. When conservatives see SNOPES reporting facts that are against their beliefs, they tend to label the site as liberal and vice versa. The truth is that the Mikkelsons tend to perform extensive research before reporting their findings. SNOPES is definitely the preferred site for fact-finding regarding urban legends and rumors. The second best site is TruthOrFiction.com which gives credit to the thoroughness and accuracy of SNOPES reporting. For political fact-checking, FactCheck.org is generally considered to be the best source.

Chris, should you like to challenge my comments, please contact me off this blog at LMart97@aol.com

Snopes is left wing and not to be trusted. Another SISS – Site In Service to soros.

The story is true. Interestingly, our president believes that citizens who defend themselves against home invaders should go to prison. This is what happens now in gun-free UK. If your dog bites a burglar in the UK, you go to prison.

      Sound familiar?

Burglars are sneaky cowards. Some dismiss them as small time, no threat. Yeah. Right. No threat at all to the homeowner, after they kill him.

It’s sickening, a sign of leftist derangement, the way some are blaming inanimate objects for crimes of a small minority of deviant thugs.

lenin would love it, however, as this is exactly what lenin recommended as a tactic for destroying civil society.

This is exactly what some now in high places have long craved: to invert bad and good to reward evildoers and punish innocent citizens.

  13. Chris January 3, 2013 at 10:49 am #

So…now you are not “the dude abides”…you are Lee?

I will challenge your comments if you write on this blog. That is everyone’s right.
As for Snopes and their leftist bias…I have read and researched many of their so called fact checks which have been slanted so far to the left, that it was painfully obvious that they have an agenda. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck….

I have looked at the other sites you mention, and feel that are less biased. Fact checking should have NO SLANT whatsoever. Facts are facts, and need to be presented on their own. The Mikkelsons or whoever wrote about the officer who went to jail, started their rant about her being used by an organization and went on to opine about that organization and money…you read it, and you cannot argue with that. As soon as I saw where they were going with their so called facts, I saw the duck.

I appreciate your offer to argue this off the blog, but am entirely too busy with work to start another discussion. Glad to know you are Lee, not the Dude.

    • paul vincent zecchino January 13, 2013 at 5:46 pm #

      Agree –

The Mikkelsons are full of prunes, using their snidely named Snopes site to appeal to leftists and their endless grudges.

  14. The Dude Abides January 3, 2013 at 11:48 am #

    Hehehehehehehehe……

  15. Lee Martines January 4, 2013 at 4:08 am #

Chris…………I’m including my whole name as I have for the couple years that I have been responding to Marshall’s articles. I have no idea who “The Dude Abides” is, and I don’t care. Neither do I have to hide behind pseudonyms. I notice that you don’t include your whole name. As I said before, show me some proof to your allegations! Not just the fact that SNOPES doesn’t agree with your biased view of a subject. The SNOPES report on this story was based on court testimonies and news articles, so if you find exception to those, blame the court recorder or the news reporters, not the Mikkelsons!

    • Christopher Jones January 4, 2013 at 12:54 pm #

      Mr. Martines…

I blog on this site using both names, as you do.

Perhaps I made an improper assumption when YOU answered for
Dude Abides. A logical person would have come to the same conclusion. But, it doesn’t matter, does it? I pretty much ignore people who write using pseudonyms, as I find they are spineless morons who do not have the courage of their convictions, and are the kind who would yell fire in a crowded theater, just to see what will happen. Our judicial system would be a complete farce if one did not have the right to face one’s accuser. Using a pseudonym is a terrorist action. But I digress…

My opinion…do I have to repeat those words (?)- will not change. The Mikkelsons “facts” were based on news articles you say. So I should blame the news articles or the reporters, you say. And we all know how the news reporters lean, don’t we. For the Mikkelsons to draw conclusions and REPORT THEM AS FACTS…THE GREAT SO CALLED FACT CHECKERS…if they are indeed the slanted opinions of left leaning news reporters, inherently makes their “facts” nothing but leftist crapola.

You can rant about my bias on a subject…which is nothing but a red herring. You bet I have bias or opinion, just like you do; like we ALL do. However, I want to form my bias based on FACTS…not left leaning facts, not right leaning facts…but rather like Joe Friday said…the facts…nothing but the facts. When the Mikkelson’s start separating the wheat from the chaff, I might change my bias about them.

After showing a copy of the letter from the incarcerated cop, Snopes goes on with a slam on the LELDF, and the first three paragraphs Snopes writes have nothing to do with the facts of the case.
The story ends with this attribution: Barbara “dogged pursuit” Mikkelson. Very cute. Bet she stayed up all night to come up with that one.

It is obvious that the Mikkelson’s have an extreme bias on this case. Is it based on the actual events? Were the Mikkelsons there? Did THEY sit through the testimony and trial? Apparently not…but they sure did make up their mind on this, and it showed bias.

No one…NO ONE likes police brutality, and no one hates it more than I do. I HAVE seen it, and was seriously ostracized for reporting it. Had my life threatened…and when your life is threatened by someone who already took a life, you take it seriously. That said, this case does not pass the smell test, and it is my OPINION, based on what I read, and what I also know about the SM case, Snopes is wrong about this, and “dogged pursuit” Mikkelson showed her extreme bias when she should have been objective and reported the facts…nothing but the facts.

  16. The Dude Abides January 4, 2013 at 2:22 pm #

Whoa! “spineless morons who do not have the courage of their convictions…the kind who would yell fire in a crowded theater, just to see what will happen…[u]sing a pseudonym is a terrorist action…” Pretty angry, man.

    he he he he he

  18. Lee Martines January 4, 2013 at 10:47 pm #

Chris………the Mikkelsons’ function is to report their findings based on the facts available to them, Their available information were the court transcripts and news reports of the case. I still say your ire is misplaced when you claim a bias on their part.

Perhaps off topic a bit, but a worthwhile New Years message. Please visit the website Anericans for Responsible Solutions. This was established by Gabby Giffords and her husband ret Captain Kelly. The purpose is to provide a vehicle for lobbying congress to take responsible action on the gun control issue. As you recall, Gabby, congresswoman from Arizona, was shot by a mentally disturbed guy with a high capacity semi automatic pistol. I would encourage everyone to join with her in this important effort.

    • paul vincent zecchino January 13, 2013 at 5:53 pm #

      Jose -

Please do go ahead and call me a hard-hearted cynic. You think I care? I don’t. Cynics are people who exploit tragedies and other ‘crises too good to waste’ to accrete more power and money into their hands, by campaigning to destroy our liberty.

Let’s get serious, shall we? Giffords and her husband need new careers. A nutcase who would not be stopped by any laws extant or proposed ended hers, and her husband’s was truncated by NASA’s being ‘fundamentally transformed’ in to an islamic self-esteem outreach program.

Giffords and Kelly think they’re on the road to fame and fortune. Instead, they’re being played by true cynics who’re using them as props to push their tyrannical agenda down our throats.

This pair will find to their chagrin that other than the usual handful of aging 60s lefties and their naive youthful followers, the American people will respond to their crusade with polite apathy.

The hundred year deathgrip the media held on information is gone, broken by the Net.

Citizens realize that passing more gun laws will not reduce crime on whit and likely will endanger more innocent people by shifting the balance of power to criminals who always have all the weapons they need.

      • Jose January 17, 2013 at 2:03 am #

Not really the rant of a cynic in my opinion. Simply a grunt from the pit that comforts the uneducated, insensitive, souls that have accomplished little and enjoy being critical in absence of being creative. Sad that your career has gone nowhere and all you have to do is criticize those who are trying to do something worthwhile.

The mere fact this is a Maryland case tells us plenty. Maryland, other than the eastern shore and western hills, has been completely subverted by the beltway commies. I know, I know, go ahead and laugh, but that’s the ideology that’s infested the beltway area. They may not gather ’round the radio to listen to castro on Primero de Mayo, but they’re doing lenin’s bidding.

Maryland has long been infested with the plague of leftism. No surprise this injustice came from that formerly wonderful state.

Leftism is a runner of the cancer called communism. It’s metastasized throughout our country, but citizens are using the Net to cauterize it upon catching sight of it.
